Abstract:

Upon cooling partially polymerized vesicles are observed to undergo a spontaneous transition to a wrinkled rigid structure. The transition is reversible: The vesicles unwrinkle upon heating. A model is presented suggesting that this transition could be the membrane equivalent of a glass transition.
